CayFilm is proud to hold CITA's long running Underwater Film Festival as part of CayFilm's events. 10 years running, the Underwater Film Festival has been an amazing avenue for underwater filmmakers and we hope to conintue the tradition.

Expedition Mediterraneum: The last of their Species 45 min The Mediterranean Region is still a paradise regarding biodiversity. More than 16,000 endemic species live in this geographic area. But there is strong pressure and more and more species are threatened by extinction, not only on land but especially in the sea. Giants like the up to 6-metres-long sawfish are gone forever. Seals, Whales and Dolphins are truggeling to survive. In the Ionian Sea, between Italy and Greece our team around the director Florian Guthknecht is looking for the last of their kind. With their research ship they pass patches of floating plastic debris and beaches full of junk. Nevertheless, on the Island of Zakynthos the team succeeds in observing sea turtles laying their eggs on crowded beaches - amidst drunken party people. But the search for sperm whales becomes a dramatic disaster. So the team gives up and tries to find out more about the rarest mammal in the Mediterranean Sea, the Monk Seal. After weeks of search the filmmakers find a hitherto unknown seal colony on a desolate prison island- with nearly 40 animals the biggest ever found. A happy end or just a breather? After two years of filming there is still no answer to this question.
Light Screen 20 Min David a Spanish uw photographer is in Mexico, on a mission for several magazines: to report on the diving in the Yucatan cenotes and about the world’s largest fish: the whale shark. Carlos, his friend, from Barcelona too, is an uw film maker, and he´s doing a film about David’s job. But inside the last cenote, Carlos has a dangerous incident… Tales of the Sand 20 Min The Sand ... we look at it without paying any attention. Yet it is an amazing world of life of adaptations and behaviors as unique as they are varied! Burying, hiding, digging, covering, crisscrossing, and resting: an apparently ordinary world inhabited by extraordinary animals.

Super Grouper Lionfish kill On location with Lionfish University in Little Cayman. Feb 1, 2015, Black Hole, Preston Bay Marine park, the remarkable video was shot by screenwriter/Producer James V. Hart [Hook, Dracula, Contact, Tombraider, August Rush, Epic] on his GoPro. The video is uninterrupted, continuous coverage of an encounter between a Nassau Grouper and a Lionfish with no human interference, other than a diver with a camera, and may be the first photo documentation of a Group making an open water kill of an invasive Lionfish by a Grouper without encouragement of any kind by a diver. Hart has many film and TV credits to his name. but he considers this unique video his most significant production. With 250,000 views on Youtube this video is now the subject of a NatGeo TV program.
